Safety With Security Camera

Security cameras are getting more common and many of us are installing them at home. We personally have three cameras; two at the front door and porch, and another one is in the living room. This is necessary because the house is often empty when all family members are leaving for their activities on a daily basis so getting cameras installed is a great way to monitor the property. It is also very easy to get them running and many cameras are very affordable as well.

However, we also understand that not everyone trusts the device since we are literally putting something that can record footage from our house. The modern security cameras are connected to the internet so users can easily access their footage and while this is extremely convenient, it also has a huge drawback because theoretically anything that is connected to the internet can be hacked which means another unauthorized person can have access to your cameras. This is a terrifying issue but we can always reduce the risk with some effort.

In order to keep your camera safer, you can choose to use a router with Wi-Fi Protected Access WPA or WPA 2 which is encrypting your data. If your camera has a firewall, try to activate this feature so we can control the information coming to and from the device. Every security camera that comes with the app will have a password so it can authenticate the owner and just like with any password, you need to make one that is unknown by other people; never let the default password unchanged.

We can also protect the Wi-Fi router with a strong password different from the one we use on the camera and if your camera comes with two factor authentication, we can also take advantage of this feature. Just like most smart devices, security cameras use firmware that continues to be upgraded so it is necessary to keep up with the latest update as they will improve many safety risks. While these efforts will reduce the risk, it doesn’t mean that our cameras are immune.

A device connected to the internet can be hacked including security cameras and since most of them are now working with the Wi-Fi, it is more vulnerable compared to those that work on their own and have local storage. This is also why it is wise to not put any camera in private rooms or areas in the house for safety purposes. The security hacks can be done by other people that don’t know you at all such as someone from the security company or close people who may know your password.

About Reolink and Annke

If you will be installing a security camera, make sure that you know what they can offer from the installation process to the footage and features they can offer. If you will install the camera outdoors such as in front of the door, the camera has to be designed for outdoor use as well because they are more resilient against harsh temperature and condition. There are so many good cameras to consider and popular options are usually very reliable.

For those who want a security camera that can show good image quality and is also easy to install, the Reolink and Annke can be two ideal options. These are famous names for security cameras and are focusing on making both home as well as commercial grade devices for your businesses. These companies offer some of their cameras in a bundle for a more complete solution but you can buy a single setup too, depending on how many cameras you want to use and spot to monitor.

For this comparison we will be choosing Argus 3 from Reolink and the C500 from Annke respectively. These cameras are rated for outdoor application so you can install them indoor or outdoor as needed but they are not the same. The Argus 3 is one of our favorite security cameras because it is very affordable and easy to use while providing good image quality. On the other hand we are not very familiar with this C500 but specs wise it should offer similar abilities to the Reolink camera.

One of the most noticeable differences is power source because this Annke camera requires direct power so you may have to spend more time to install the device. On the other hand this Reolink model is battery powered but can be combined with a solar panel too from the same brand. As for the image quality, they are very similar to each other because both cameras are producing good image quality, sharp, and detailed. Read also: Reolink Vs Ring here.

Reolink and Annke Camera

Before checking what these Reolink and Annke cameras can offer, let’s take a look into the unit first. Starting from Reolink Argus 3, the box comes with one unit of the camera, a USB cable for charging its battery, and a mount to put the unit. Do note that the battery is non-removable for this model which means we need to take the camera off or you can attach a Reolink solar panel so they can continuously charge automatically. As you can see this camera is also featured with a spotlight.

The C500 from Annke comes already attached to the base so it can cut the installation process and there is nothing in the box but the unit itself and a manual. The unit is directly powered so you will need to buy additional cables to extend the reach because the one we got is camera only; it seems that there is a version with the NVR cable included. Annke sold the NVR kit separately so in general it is less straightforward.

Reolink and Annke Specs

There are so many good options to consider if you are going to buy a security camera and these two are some of the best options to go for. Starting from the specs, both are capable of delivering a good image quality with 2MP and 5MP cameras. The resolution for Argus 3 is 1080p native and recording at 30fps while for this C500 it will be 2560 x 1920. But, it seems that if you are streaming the footage when using RTSP protocol the highest resolution is reduced to 1920 x 1080.

Reolink and Annke Image Quality

Next for the image quality, we do think these Reolink and Annke cameras are very good considering the price point yet they are not identical and in comparison we see the Annke is smoother in motion. The color is also different because Argus 3 is more saturated so it can be more pleasant to watch by most people but the footage is a bit harsh in detail compared to the C500. This Annke camera is also providing a more natural color.

However, when it comes to night vision, the Argus 3 looks better because it offers colorful footage instead of the normal black and white. This C500 is claimed to come with color night footage but it only shows dimmer black and white video. In addition, the Argus 3 has a spotlight so this built-in illumination can help a lot at distinguishing objects at night as well as to make the camera more noticeable to deter opportunists.

Reolink and Annke Features

Lastly on the features, the Reolink and Annke are coming with some identical features such as live streaming directly from your smart device like smartphone or computers with the account we have created before. They can deliver two way audio for communication and they can record during the day and night. The thing we love from the Annke C500 is the account where you access them since there are so many manual adjustments here such as the image settings like saturation and exposure.

The feature that we do think most people will want to have is motion detection and this is only available on the Reolink variant for these specific cameras. This feature is necessary to let you know when there is a movement in front of the sensor so they can alert us and this Argus 3 sensor sensitivity can be adjusted in three levels too.

Reolink Vs Annke

There are so many good cameras out there and you may want to try these Reolink and Annke options. The most important difference between the two is ease of use because we don’t think everyone will be able to install this C500 camera properly especially if you have no experience before. The Argus 3 is overall easier to work with yet the daytime image quality is less impressive than this C500.

Conclusion

You can go amazing with any of the two and if you want to save the budget or don’t need any extensive features, the C500 from Annke is a great choice and if you want the camera that is easy to use and more versatile in installation, the Argus 3 from Reolink is what we recommend buying.
